What Kind Of Sticks For Cookies?

I want to make some "magic wand" cookies. What kind of sticks work best and do I put the sticks in before they bake or right when they come out? Thanks in advance!

I just made some cookies with lollipop sticks bought at Hobby Lobby. They are white and I think there was 2 sizes. They held up really well!

I use bamboo skewers from Kroger and insert them when my cookies come out of the oven.

I use the 12 inch white sticks-I believe they are from CK products. I get them at my local bake shop. I like the long ones because you can cut them down for varying heights in a bouquet.
