ARGHHHHH, my clients are on thier way to pick this cake up. My daughter had a really bad ear infection yesterday and I had to take her to the Dr's 40 mins away. It took hours while we were there and I had to hurry this cake and EVERYTHING was going wrong. I'm so embarrassed. I think it's so ugly. Ugh.... I don't even want to give it away let alone accept money for it!!!

I think it is cute, I posted that in your gallery.. I think the Hello Kitty is precious. Wait until your customer arrives and go off of their reaction.. 9 times out of 10 they will love it... we are always more critical of our own work.. I think they will be pleased with it. You did a great job!

Wow, it looks great to me, I'm pretty sure your customer will love it, we are usually to hard on ourselves since we know better, I'm sure she/he/customer will be impressed. Let us know and good luck!!

Thanks you guys, you are really sweet!

Honestly, I feel sick to my stomach about it. I think the thing that's bothering me is the the buttercream is just SO messy. I just couldn't get it to behave!!!
Oh well, too late now! I just hope they like it.... and it tastes good.

I think it is darling. Most non cake decorators don't even notice how smooth the buttercream is. Think about before you knew about decorating. Didn't you just put the icing on and not smooth it out perfectly?

I'm sure they will love it. Let us know what they say. It's always good for others to see that even though we are hard on our work most other people love the cakes and don't see the "mistakes" we see in our own work. It's the overall look of the cake that people love.

I remember one of Ace of Cakes shows where they did a great cake and took days to do it so it came out perfect with the details but the groom just dug right in. Didn't care how perfect it was or about the details. Most people just see a Wow cake and dig in.

I so agree...It is cute! You are being hard on yourself. Plus, we do see flaws that no one else sees, when you are doing it yourself.
It is adorable. Good luck. Don't worry!!

i had the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago, and it's true what everyone says... you're your own worst critic!
doesn't it always seem like when it comes down to the wire, your materials won't co-operate?! it happens to me all the time!
i think your cake looks great, and i think that your customer will be thrilled with it! don't beat yourself up about it... you did a wonderful job, and you did it in less than ideal circumstances!

OK so it's officially GONE!!

Only the husband showed up to get it but he said...

"Oh wow, that's great!"

He seemed impressed but I don't know how his wife will react. The child who's birthday it is was also there and she seemed to like it...

Ugh, I'm still worrying.... anyone have a valium? I'm praying for it to fall over in the car - is that a bad thing?? LOL

Good, now relax!!!! You'll see, you have been so worried for nothing, she will love it too! And also, the birthday girl is the one who has to love the cake, if she is happy, everybody will be happy. And she liked it right?? So you are good! Cheer up and have a margarita, or two...

Sure thing!

I changed my mind after I posted that, it's a WHOLE different cake WITH the frosting and even better when the frosting has crusted. Very different and yummy.

Somehow I have a feeling you didn't charge enough. Unless you decorate cakes you don't notice inperfections.

I understand how you feel, I've been there. If it will put your mind at rest and she is a regualar customer you could always call and tell her what you told us and say next time I'll take ?% or $? off your order to make up for it.

The child will be thrilled with it because it's so darling.

Jeanette - haha I don't know.... I think I charged too much!!

I charged $50 *gasp*

Hmmm, maybe I should have charged less - I never know what to ask!
I came up with 50 because it was 30-40 servings and although it didn't turn out great I did put a LOT of time and work into it...

Think that sounds OK?

There's a lot of us in the boat with you - not knowing what to charge. I don't think $50 is too much. That is a lot of cake and cute. She wouldn't have gotten a cake elswhere for that price.

Wow Jstar, $50??? That was a bargain for the cake they got... I understand you were stressing but next time, please do charge MORE than that! Your cakes are worth more than $50, specially a tiered cake and a fondant figure (hello kitty)!!!!

Man, I have charged $50 a time for all of my cakes and felt guilty every time!!!
I have considered putting my prices up and will probably do so when I have a bit more experience under my belt. I have only been doing this for like a year and teach myself everything so I do have a way to go!

Thanks for the support you guys... I really do appreciate it icon_smile.gif
