36 Weeks Pregnant...should I Do This Cake?
Decorating By luv2cake Updated 14 Jan 2007 , 12:23am by bonnscakesAZ
I have a bride-to-be that just contacted me about doing her wedding cake on March 2nd. At that time, I will be just 4 weeks away from my due date.
This won't be a huge cake, they only want to feed 100-125 people. I have no idea as to the difficulty of the decorating yet, as I haven't met in person to discuss the details.
My son was born only 2 days early, but I have heard stories of babies being born weeks early. I would hate to be in labor on her wedding day. I just don't want to possibly put her in a bind if that should happen.
What do you think I should do? You think it'd be alright to take it on or should I just play it safe and not do it. Like I have said, I've only given birth one time so I am still kinda new at all this.
I would like to have the extra money, but not at the risk of messing up her wedding.
I would not chance it. I had a good customer want me to make a cake for her son's wedding and I told her I could not because I was due any time.It is a good thing I did because the baby came on the day of her event!
The usually say the more you have the "earlier" they come...LOL..I know just an old wives tale but I've had 3 beautiful babies and my 3rd was 3 weeks early but my other two were 2 weeks early so that may just be how my body works....anyway I wouldn't risk it!!!!! I'm sure she'll understand.
Anyone that could help you if you do go into labor? Any CC friends?
Otherwise - be honest with the bride - she will appreciate it!
Good luck (with the baby too
)
Don't risk it. There are so many possibilities of things going weird. If you have my kind of luck and you take the job; all H-ll will break loose at the wrong time. If you don't take it, then everything will be smooth as silk and you will be kicking yourself for not taking it. Better to be kicking yourself for missing the chance than disappointing the bride.
Although, if you have a back up who is willing to step in and do the job for you if things go awry, then you have an entirely different situation.
I understand about the needing the extra money, but my daughter was three weeks early. She was my first. My son was two days late according to the calendar. So you cant judge when or where unless you are going to induce labor on a particular day. Good Luck! ![]()
I really don't think it's a good idea to take the job. You are considered term at 37 weeks, so any time after that is not early and 36 weeks is hardly really early... but even if the baby isn't born yet, you don't know how you'll feel or how your health will be. What if you need to go on bedrest? What if you start to get high blood pressure or swollen feet, etc... There are just too many unknowns.... cakes will come again and she'll HAVE to understand! LOL

Well, I can feel your pain... I am currently 33 weeks pregnant and seem to getting orders to slow down, which is probably good. At any rate, I had an order for a baby shower cake due 2/24 and my son is due 2/28... I told the lady I would do it as long as I weren't in labor, but that she needed a back up method. It didn't take her long to realize, hey I best try something else.. so their aunt is going to make a sheet cake.... I wanted to do it because it was a large party and the money would have been worth it, but like everyone else says, you just never know.. prime example, I was in the hospital last weekend with contractions 3 minutes apart. They gave me 2 shots to stop them and take home meds until delivery, but I am still having them. I am taking small orders, and only 2 a week right now, no stress is good... I hope everything works out with your baby.... good luck!
Seeing how my son came at 36w and 5d....I know that babies can come early.
I wouldn't chance it....even if the baby doesnt' come early...you probably won't feel up to it that late in the pregnancy anyways!!
Congrats on the new little one!!
I would suggest you dont' risk it. I too am 28 wks and 2 days today and I have already turned down a customer for that reason, and this cake was for mid-February. You never know what can happen, and you don't know how you'll be feeling. You don't know if you'll get sick...I am now undergoing treatment for the shingles, which came unexpectedly.
Hey, the day can come and go and you'll still be prego and not even close to dialating. But it can also be the other way around.
Hope all goes well!
RU on Baby Center?
All my babies were c/sections--1st one was emerg at 41w6d, others scheduled. Still would not chance it if we ever do have another one. Babies as sweet as they are, have a mind of their own and like to call the shots--ha!
Congrats!!!!
I am about as far along as you are. I would probably do it if I had a back up. If you have someone that can take it over just in case then go for it. If not then I might not.
