Please help! I need to make a cake under the "nerd" theme and I was hoping for some ideas! I really want to do cupcakes, and I was thinking of doing apples made of a cupcake and a donut on top, but I'm not sure what type of icing to do, I'm afraid plain buttercream would just be too sweet. Also if you have any other cupcake ideas that fall under the nerd theme that would be greatly appreciated!

No that is what the theme is, nerds as in school, suspenders, etc.
Also, I do not want to use any fondant.
