How Long Does Fondant Really Have To Cure/rest? Any Tips....

I just made Michelle Fosters MMF recipe (for the first time, instead of the regular MMF) and finished it at about 1 p.m. today. I need to do a whole handpainted cake ( 2 layers ) by tomorrow and was hoping to cover tonight so I can get started......
The directions say to let fondant rest 24 hrs - is this a necessity? If so, I will wait, but if it's not necessary, I wanted to know so I can get started.
I just checked it again and it seems awfully soft....not sure if that had to do with the cure time or the fact that I didn't use 4# of sugar - more like 3 1/4 or so.
Guess I will wait until tomorrow to be on the safe side - would hate to see hours of painting be shot to hell because I used soft fondant! ![]()
I would try to add some more powdered sugar to it. My best friend and I usually use regular MMF and the only time that we've had to give it "curing" time is if we've colored it a very bright or very dark color. HTH
