I just had someone ask me to do a cake with a dog with a cowboy hat on top. How should I go about doing this?? I can make a dog for sure...but I'm not sure how to make a cowboy hat

You could use a cupcake, carve a little out of the top for the dent of the hat, cover in fondant. For the brim you could use a piece of a bakery box cut in a sort of an oval (hat brim shape) and cover in fondant. Leave a cupcake size hole in the board though so it can be placed on top of the dogs head. Then use a dowel, thru the dogs head, slip the brim over the dowel, then put the cupcake on top. Just tell customer the brim is not ediable. HTH
