I need to cover a football helmet with mmf, how much should I make? What diameter will I need to roll out? The cake will be carved from 1/2 the sports ball pan laying on top of 2 layers of 6" cake. I could do the math for flat cakes, but the curve of the sports ball pan has stumped me.

I usually only make batches of mmf a little at a time for accents, so I'm clueless as to what amount would be appropriate.

Hi, to cover a 6" cake you need 1.5 lb. So for 2 it'll be 3llb. What if you use another 1.5 - 2lb of MMF. I'm not sure. But when I cover odd shaped cakes I always take more fondant. I would rather use a lot than getting into trouble after I put the fondant on the cake.
