I'm doing a cake for ScareFest, a horror/paranormal convention. I want some kind of creepy border for the cake. The main colors will be Lime/Black/Red. If you have any suggestions, post a pic.

THANKS!

I do not have a picture, but a border of RI bats might be an interesting touch.

How about a border of spiders or rats circling around the cake?

What about severed fingers, blood shot eyeballs, dripping blood, headstones, etc. (Can you tell I've got 3 boys????) icon_rolleyes.gif

I thinking of the eyeballs all the way around the cake with "blood" dripping down underneath them all.

Flames are always cool and easy too!

Snakes as a border icon_cry.gif Even though I hate them with a dire passion, they would make a cool border. K'ly

jjkarm - couldn't tell at all!! lol but great ideas!
Fingers and eye are also pretty easy to make, so it wouldn't take too much time. Sounds like a fun cake!

I think it would be really cool to do dripping blood around the edges.......you know how people do those cakes with the chocolate ganache dripping down the sides?? Well, maybe do a white chocolate ganache dyed RED for blood.....?

Last year, I did a horror cake. green goo oozing over the sides from the top. Eyeballs around the ouside, and a fondant hand coming out of the top to hold the one Vincent Price style candle. It was cooool! I wish I had the pic, but I took it with a disposable camera and I think I mistakenly disposed of that one. icon_cry.gif

Fun to make!!! Enjoy doing yours!!!

You can get a sculpty mold that makes hands and arms and then put them around the cake coming out of a brown cookie crumb (dirt) like they are buried and trying to claw there way out.

A couple of ideas, make cake balls around the border that look like eyeballs. You can make meringue bones, or you can make an acetate stencil that looks like skeletons or skeleton hands and do a chocolate cake wrap. Can also be anything else for a chocolate cake wrap. I love Halloween and can't wait to make these things, oh meringue skulls would be fun as well. Have fun! thumbs_up.gif

Oh great thread!!!

I love the idea of the bones/arms digging their way out of the "dirt" and of the ring of eyeballs!

Fantastic!

There are great candy molds out there for some of this scary stuff (I know, I have lots!) and you can press fondant etc. in them also.

I cannot wait for pics. icon_biggrin.gif

You could pack oreo (or a similar black cookie) crumbs around the bottom of the cake and have "worms" crawling out of the "dirt" and up the sides of the cake.

Can't wait to see pics of this cake!
