I Need Some Ideas

I am trying to make a cake that is shaped like an open box with two alligators sticking out of it. I got the gators but I have no idea how to get the cake to be in the shape of an opened box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could make the lid out of cardboard and cover with fondant ot make it out of styrofoam and cover with fondant. You can use a wedge to prop the lid open with and stick the alligators in there.

Could you use graham cracker sheets or large matzo crackers as the structure of the flaps?

I would use something hard (a dowel maybe) to prop the lid open and hide it with the gators or any other decorations that you will be using.
