So I was lazy and left red icing in my featherweight bag and now it's stained pink and making my white icing pink too! Has anyone ever bleached their bags? I don't want to end up with an unusable bleach-taste-giving bag or one that disenegrates from the bleach.

I never applied stright bleach, but a bleach and water soultion sure!

I also boil my bags from time to time. I fill a large stock pot with all the tips, couplers, and bags and cover with water and let boil. You will see the water turn colors and the oil rise to the top.

When I clean mine, I turn them inside out and slip them onto my hand. Apply stright dishwashing liquid and very hot water. They come really clean this way!

Good Luck! icon_smile.gif

I might just clean in very hot water and soap, and/or boil in water. No need to bleach. Your bag will remain stained pink but it shouldn't be turning any other icing pink if it's clean.

good luck!

I have put mine in the dishwasher, and it cleans them up pretty well...

Thanks all!

I soaked them in a bleach solution, THEN boiled them (the water turned pink), THEN washed them again in SUPER-HOT soapy water! Still pink, but probably cleaner than new icon_biggrin.gif !

Aaaah!

I totally had thought about posting the exact same question ladybug! The strange thing is, I never had a problem with the stained featherweight bag leeching color into my white icing until a random incident recently. I made a small wedding cake. The next day when I'm about to go deliver it, I realize that a couple of the shells on the border of the 6 inch tier had somehow gotten crushed when covering it. I need to get going, but no big deal! I deftly pop off the faulty shells and replace them with nice new ones.

Then I accidently bump the side of the cake knocking off a huge chunk of frosting from the top.

UM.

...

SHIT.

I have just enough icing leftover to spread over what was knocked off, manage to somehow make it mostly smooth with the rest of the cake. If only because I'm already 15 minutes late at this point... I'm piping out the replacement shell border (again) and a few scrolly things... only to notice that for the first time ever, it's PINK. The stain is leaching out into my frosting. After another round of "you've got to be kidding me", I desperately found myself mashing together enough shortening, sugar, and water to make that last quarter cup of would be frosting and making a parchment paper bag to finish the pink shells and scrolls that I just had to scrape off.
