Monty Python's Holy Hand Grenade..iso Tips

My DH is a huge Monty Python fan. I thought I'd try my hand at recreating the Hand Grenade for his bday cake. I thought maybe using the Sports ball pan, cover w/ fondant and brush w/ gold dust... a GP cross. Any suggestions for the base and the jewels? It looks fairly straight forward but I'd love ya'lls creative input

The base looks very simular to candle holders I've seen. Can you possibly pick up a simular one at a dollar store, or something?
That's a good idea! I'll look around to see if I can find the right size.
Yeah, I was going to say a candle holder, too. I've seen rhinestone strips like that at the fabric store so you can probably just go buy a piece of it and put it around the middle of the cake.
