Ok, so I volunteered to make my neices birthday cake, I need the practice. She wanted simple, a blue cake with an elephant-- easy icon_smile.gif I had decided what I wanted to do.... then today I get a call, she changed her mind and my MIL dropped off a picture....

Turns out her sister found a picture on a magazine at school, cut it out and told her she should have this cake....

Cover of the Womans Day magazine, not sure which one... but its the cake with the Teddy Grahams having a pool party (Ice cream cone with water slide), pool of Jello etc... anyone who remembers this cake, a little help would be appreciated.

Teddy Grahams, no problem-- decorate them in cute swim suits, cake itself, fine no isues with that.

I do have a few questions.... the pool, says it's made with blue jello?? Exactly how do I do this on the cake? Should I use blue piping gel instead? make the jello, let it cool until it's not hot, and thickening a little then pour on to the cake??

Pretzel ladders and flags? Stuck together with royal??

The waves around the base of the cake look like buttercream, but I can't figure out how they get it piped smooth like that-- i was thinking MMF waves might be better???

Anyone know what the slide itself is made with???

Any help on this would be VERY VERYYYY appreciated!!!!!

I haven't looked closely at the picture, so I don't have answers yet, but I thought I'd post it so that you could get input from others too.

Water slide: Press 2 red Air Heads end to end to make an 8-in.-long strip. Curve strip and bend up sides. Heat white chocolate chips in a ziptop bag in microwave until just melted. Snip a tiny tip off corner; pipe chocolate down center of strip; sprinkle with blue sugar. Refrigerate at least 5 minutes until set.

Don't be afraid to try the jello. I've made two of the pool cakes (though not that exact one). The jello looks really good, and is suprisingly tasty with the cakes (who knew?). Just make sure you follow the directions well and you should be fine!

I did this cake myself. Do not do the slide as it says, because the airheads get soft and fall a part. By the time of the party my slide was a sidewalk. You could make the slide out of mmf and let it dry a couple of days. The waves are supposed to be airheads also, but I could not get it thinned and that wide so I airbrushed the waves. I have the magazine if you have any other questions. Good luck. I have a pic in my photos.

You can probably use MMF (or any other kind of fondant) instead of the airheads for the waves and/or the slide. You could also just pipe on the waves with buttercream if you wanted.
