Hi everyone,
I have just started working with gum paste, and need some advice!
I bought the Wilton pre-made gum paste, and I have 'played' with it a couple of times now...........I am trying to make people for a hot tub cake that I have to do in September........but the one I made last night turned out horrible! The gum paste started to harden, but then it started cracking, so the arm of the figure looked like a crinkly old person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What am I doing wrong? Why is the gum paste cracking??????
And do you prefer premade gum paste or do you make your own??

I thank you for your help! I have already learned SO much from all you CC'ers!!! This website is a God-send!!!!!!

Try adding some fondant to your gumpaste. It will delay the drying time. Most of the time it is a 50/50 mix of gumpaste to fondant. But I have done less. Adding just a little fondant so the GP stays close to its orignal texture, keeping it more like a clay-like consistency. HTH
