I have used an apple filling. Was able to get in a premade sleeve, so it is non perishable. Also cream cheese is great.
I like to make an apple pie filling sort of thing for spice cake. I just use the same filling for a pie, I just cut the apples smaller. I make it the day before I am going to use it so it has time to set up and thicken. You could torte your cake and alternate fillings, apple then cream cheese. Now I have to go make a cake! ![]()
why dont you use both cream cheese and apple.... maybe couple layers of both. just love cream cheese icing.. ![]()

I think orange would be good. I did a greek dessert, could spell it now, but it had a spice sauce and phyllo dough filled with an orange custard. Turned out pretty good. I am not a be spice cake fan, but this I would eat again.
Cream cheese with orange rind or mixed with Nutmeg or Cinnamon.
