I almost want a typeset kit, you know, like the way they used to print newspapers? Some caps, some lowercase and they all fit on a "rack" of sorts to make words, and then I could imprint it on the cake and trace.

I TRIED to do a transfer of letters, but I CANNOT do pretty letters when they are reversed. It was way too difficult for my brain to decipher and not easy to do!!!!

Do some of those scrapbooking things have letters for stamping that you can combine like I mentioned? Or are they all too small for a cake top?

Any other suggestions. IRL my handwriting isn't that great, so I can't hope to think that "practice will make perfect"!

use your computer. type your message in the font and size you want and print it out in reverse. if you think you will use it again you could cover it with clear contact paper. then you can use this to transfer your message in any method you prefer. example, using the piping gel method or poking holes in the letters and dusting with cocoa pwd etc. then all you have to do is overpipe with your icing.

I know that Wilton carries the letters like that.
I have a kit. It has a plastic bar that the letters fit into, and then you just press it into the top of the cake.

CakeCentral has it, but it's currently sold out.

This is ingenious! Tracing I can do (as you can see in my photos! icon_lol.gif )...

One question, how do you keep the cocoa powder from spreading? I suppose I could just pinprick through the holes too right?

I'm not a big fan of piping gel as it's not easy enough to see for me... and making it a semi permanent set with contact paper is a GREAT idea! yay!

Thank you!
