Edible Versus Nonedible Butterflies- Suggestions Needed

I need to make turqoise and brown butterflies with maybe a tinge of white and I'm wondering what is the best way to do this.

Should I make them edible or not? I appreciate any suggestions.

The client wants them to look like their landing on the cake.
