Need A Computer Gurus Help With Videos

When I upload my photos and videos from my digital camers, it saves the videos as a THM file. I can email the file but people on the receiving end can't open them or view them. This is vital as I have small children growing fast, and their grandparents are states away! Does anyone know how to help me convert these files to mpegs or something simpler to transfer via email or youtube? Thanks!

Usually for me, when I save them, I do it when it says "save as" then there is another box below that and that's where it allows you to save as a certain file type i.e jpeg. Hope that isn't too confusing.
