I teach Wilton cake decorating classes and I always suggest that the oval pan serves anywhere from 8-10 people depending upon the size of the slice and amount of layers.

BTW - I love the pans and have used them from everything from Easter Baskets, Mothers Day Flower Cakes, to Babies Booties plus carved for a football.

I don't have a picture of my booties uploaded to CC but you can search for Knitted Baby Booties and see what they look like. Just do a tight zig zag over the tops and sides of the cakes and build up the backside to form the heel of the bootie. Add a fondant bow and you're done. They make very impressive gifts of a Mom-to-Be.
