sorry that i took so long to respond (sugarshack, i saw your PM
).
he loves it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
he is like a "Tim the Toolman Taylor" kinda guy, so he thinks that Sharon is the ultimate cake engineer and genius
. he can't wait to watch the Stacking DVD!! i should have watched it by myself, now he will be behind me every minute criticising my technique.
for anyone out there who is considering buying the DVD, buy it!!!!
she teaches so much in 80 mins, you have to break it down into small steps and master it as you go along. as she said at the end of the DVD, you need to practise, practise, practise. the DVD is worth every penny and i will definitely buy the Fondant and Stacking DVD's in the near future.
Sharon rocks!!!!!!!!
Thanks Stacey! We were wondering what a guy would think of a cake DVD! LOL
he sounds like a cool guy!
I've been dropping hints like atom bombs to my boyfriend. He even asked me for the links to the dvd's so i sent it! Maybe i'll get a surprise soon!!! I hope cause i don't have the $$ right now and i want them badly!!!! LOL
Got the stacking video now my set is complete.
She is a great teacher. I can't wait for more! Hint. Hint.

My hubby watched the dvd's with me and he thought they were great. We each picked up on a different tip and we were both amazed. I seriously think I could watch them ten more times and still learn something new. They are the best!!!!! I am so thankful to sharon! Her videos helped me make my first wedding cake and I got rave reviews!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
I am sooo excited!! I got mine in the mail today!!! Fast shipping!!!
I bought the buttercream one and the stacking one. Also bought a couple of her tools. I can't wait!!! Now.......... what to do with the kids.....
lol!
nisha_ru, sorry don't know about the smbc for sure. My guess is that it has to be a crusting buttercream but not positive.
THanks for the great customer service!!
Can someone please tell me if her methods work with other kinds of icing? (such as smbc?)
I am dying to order this DVD!!!!
Hi Nisha,
Some of the basic icing techniques and smoothing with the scraper at the beginning, you could use. But the later smoothing tachniques that use paper towels etc do require it to crust. I don't want to mislead you, because most of thr things on the DVD do require it to crust. HTH!
I just got Sharon's BC dvd...from the library! I'm so excited. I still hope to buy them all someday because I've heard they are fabulous. Money is a little tight right now for us so I thought I would see if I could get the DVD through the library. They ordered it and 4 weeks later contacted me that it was in. I can't wait to watch it! ![]()
floophs that is a great idea!
please let me know how u like them ok?
You guys have me convinced. I just ordered the buttercream DVD after being thoroughly tired of making "textured" cakes. Can't wait for it to arrive!! ![]()
Just watched the BC DVD last night. Wow...it is EXCELLENT! Very much step by step and great tips that I had never heard of. I'm excited to try Sharon's recipe and techniques VERY soon!
Sharon, my kids (ages 7 & 9) watched it with me and couldn't believe how smooth you got the cake. They were however, disappointed that you didn't decorate it.
I tried explaining to them that you were just trying to show how to get the cake smooth before decorating but they thought you could of at least put 1 rose on top of it.
I was surprised though that they watched it from start to finish. Even my hubby who was trying to look like he was doing something else was watching it every now and again.
It's a great DVD! Thanks for sharing your knowledge Sharon!
HAHA!
Funny Floophs! Thank you for that wonderful review. I am so glad you were able to get it. Too funny about the DH and kids. Tell the kids to hang on, the next DVDs will have lots of decorating in them!
Thank you again!
Can't wait for some decorating tips (maybe sugar flowers since I've been interested in gumpaste or fondant flowers lately).
I was always disappointed in my BC icing skills and so I hide it under fondant. Well I watched your DVD and had an epiphany. Well if SS can't do it in 5 minutes, why the heck do you think you can do it in 5 minutes! LOL! I was like, wow, it takes her so long to ice a cake, but she does it so well. No wonder you can't do it, Michelle. Duh!
LOL Michelle! No I cannot do it in 5 minutes. It does take some effort to get it "flawless" ( really no such thing in caking, but you know what I mean, LOL). And sometimes we don't need to put that much effort in it, if the cake will have lots of decorating on it. It's that new trend of naked wedding cakes that have forced us all to try to up our BC skills; nothing to hide flaws! ACK! Oh, do we long for the days of ton of BC flowers, ruffles and swags? tee hee
I know, no wonder I was so mad at myself! I thought you guys just plopped the BC on the cake, waved your magic spatula, and it was beautifully iced in no time, because sometimes that what it seems like. So glad to know that it takes a looong time to get a cake iced to perfection and that someday I might be able to accomplish that! Until then, I'm hiding under fondant. ![]()
No Michelle! Do not hide! get that scraper and viva out and practice! You will be a pro before you know it!
Aren't we all just so hard on ourselves when it comes to our cakes? Must be a common trait for cakers... obcessive perfectionists!
I just ordered two of her DVDs this weekend. I can't wait till I get them. When I get more $ I'll order the third. I'm so excited!!!
Wow I am glad I saw this I ordered my three dvd's yesterday I am glad to see so many loving the dvds I am soooo excited! I can't wait till mine arrives.

floophs, I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the DVD! Hurray for the library too!
I tried Sharon's techniques on a lemon raspberry cake last weekend and was surprised at how well it turned out!!
My favourite tips from the DVD were:
1. damming the layers with the stiff buttercream...it really does give the sides of the cake "structure"
2. letting the cake settle after damming and filling (lightbulb moment...why didn't i think of that!)
3. sitting down at eye-level with the cake (you will be able to inspect the sides of the cake better and fill in "crooked" spots)
4. ...and OMG...the bench scraper...WHOAAA! Even using that alone makes the sides of my cake supersmooth!
I want the Stacking DVD ![]()

Sharon, does the Stacking DVD show how to get the tops of the cakes level? Mine always end up looking lop-sided.![]()

Thanks for the great review and all the excitment gals!
No, it does not show anything about that, but if you practice the techniques shown in the BC DVD, your cake tops will be level and ready to stack!
Michelle, I totally felt the same way you did...I thought it took her maybe 10 minutes to ice a cake smooth. After watching the DVD I realized I'm going to have to put more time in my cakes if I want them to look at all smooth. Wouldn't it be great if they taught all this at the Wilton courses?
Sharon...can't wait for your decorating DVDs. My kids will be thrilled and we will all be on the couch together with our bowl of popcorn...watching it in amazement! ![]()
I have been looking into buying these videos and even put a post on here to get opinions from those who have bought them. So far everything I have heard is great. I think I will go ahead and purchase them now I am excited to get them and use the methods. ![]()
