I have a request for an anniversary cake that will look like a wedding cake (they didn't get to have a real wedding cake and are making up for it on their anniversary) with gumpaste stargazer lilies.

I'm 100% ok with making the lilies, but they also asked me to incorporate the color blue somehow. Stargazers and blue just don't go together in my book. They want things to stay pretty simple, so I thought of toning some buttercream roses in a pink (matching the lilies) to purple to blue, but I'm not sure it's going to look right in the finished product. I drew up a sketch, any opinions or alternatives to better incorporate some blue are welcome!

what about getting some ribbon that incorporates the blue and the colors in the lillies....like a stripey fabric???? Wrap that around each tier......could be really pretty and still keep it simple and pretty!

How about if the main icing color is blue and you use the stargazers and roses in the pinks. I attached some blue cakes that I liked the color of (for color samples, not design) and thought it would be pretty in your design.

Good luck with your cake!

Personally, I think your sketch looks great! I love stargazers and I think blue is a great accent color in that situation. I say give it a try! I look forward to seeing the finished product!

These are awesome ideas, but sadly, I think she's pretty set on wanting white. If it was up to her husband, the whole cake would be blue, from the frosting to the decorations icon_smile.gif She feels she got "cheated" out of having a real wedding cake (not sure the background on that story!) so she wanted this one to be fairly traditional.

That's certainly an option, I'll have to check out what ribbon I can find!
