Merissa: Thanks for the link. I think I'm going to order one! It looks like it is more durable than the one I have. I LOVE gadgets and this has looks like it has LOTS of possibilities!!

I think I might get one too. The fact that the wheels are metal rather than plastic leads me to believe it should cut a lot smoother.

received my order tonight. i have been playing with it but i haven't made anything. the blades seem to very sharp. in fact they make it a point of letting you know that they have sharp edges that could cut your skin. i've just been changing it from 1/4cut to 2inch cut. the directions are very specific as to how to change from one size to the other using the spacers. i didn't get anything for x-mas so this was my late x-mas present to myself. i also purchased the garrett frill but one of my pieces is missing. it was supposed to have 4 cutters but it only had 3.

i kinda went over board but here my list:
heart impression mat, swirl impression mat, diamond impression mat, butterfly mold with cutters, crown mold, fan mold with cutters, rose mold with cutters, fmm lace border set pink and green, ajustable ribbon cutter, 6 crimpers (1 on back order), garrett frill cutter, and 2 bottles of glycerine.

now if i can learn how to use the impression mats correctly (no directions included) i'll be okay.

It is sad but true that Wilton products are not up to standard. They have some great ideas but the quality is sorely lacking. I never buy their products anymore, even if I have to order from England.
Do you think Wilton would take any notice of us if we all complained? I have trashed so much of their stuff in the past.

you know I think there are different levels of quality in everything we buy. In my opinion wilton is fine for some things and not others. I dont know if wilton is the best choice of "serious" cake decorators. But for people making an occasional cake I think it is fine. I never would have gotten into cake decorating without wilton. I would not have purchased expensive equipment on line. But that being said, I dont buy a lot of wilton stuff anymore. I have had problems with many of their products, but some things I do like. You get what you pay for so to speak. I think I just know better now what to look for.

As far as this ribbon cutter, I just bought a pasta wheel thing from ebay, for like $20 something and free shipping! I cant wait!

You've discovered a sad fact of life. Wilton = useless junk! I can't tell you how much of their stuff I've thrown out.

For strips, I use a wheel cutter and a see-through ruler from the quilting supplies department. Most of the quilting rulers have divisions marked at 1/4 inch (or smaller). Just takes a few extra seconds to line up.

I use pie dough tools, you could try this also. They have cheaper ones available, but this site has a picture. You can also find the rippled edge one.

Coating the wheels with a little crisco makes a world of difference on the wilton ribbon cutter.
