Royal Icing Flowers With Textured Petals

Thinking back on my Wilton royal icing flowers classes....I don't recall adding any texture to the petals to make them look more realistic. I have seen some great RI work and would like to know how it is done? Anyone with any tips?

Strazel, are you sure that the flowers you saw were royal icing and not gumpaste or fondant? I'm not aware of any way to texture royal icing flowers. Hope you hear from someone.
