Hi All,
Was browsing recipies and came accross Mexican Chocolate Cake which sounds yum! Recipe asks for 1/2 cup sour milk, so err should I just leave a 1/2 cup of milk out of the fridge for day untill it's sour
or is this something you buy specially??

P.S If you buy it specially can it be substituted? as I know I've never seen it here!
Hiyas Shola,
The recipe is referring to what's often used as a substitute for buttermilk:
To a cup of milk, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice - mix and let sit for about 10 minutes. Then use. The milk will thicken up a little and look a little curdled.
It imitates many of the qualities of buttermilk, but it's a little more convenient for those of us who don't often have buttermilk on hand.
Hello!
Here are a couple of sites that give directions on how to sour milk. I have used the same method for substituting for buttermilk and it comes out perfect! I usually use vinegar but you can use either the lemon juice or the vinegar. Hope that helps! Good luck with your recipe!
