I was SO PROUD of my finished cake, with the basketweave on the sides, the rope border, and all my beautiful royal icing flowers and colorflow birds. I couldn't wait to take it home and show it off!

I unveiled my masterpiece for my family <ta-da!>...and all my basketweave had slid off the sides, creating a slide for my flowers to coast down. My little bluebird looked like he had been shot!

Oh, that's awful! What a bummer! My daughter pulled my very first wilton cake off the counter and smooshed it before I could show anyone, but luckily I had already taken pictures.

Same thing happened to me with course II basketweave cake. I had made my icing too soft - I had struggled in the past with always having my icing too stiff and that night I had it too soft. The basketweave slid down on just one area. I have since made the same cake several times with no trouble.
