just a quick qu for anyone who would like to answer??? i totally stink at drawing, and what if one day i actually did start a cake business how would i get away with designing a cake for a client if i cant even draw a basic cake drawing to show my or their ideas? i just cannot draw a cake. any advice or tips from anyone would help... was just wondering what anyone did who stunk at drawing like i do.

I can't draw ... my cakes look like stick people. But I find brides aren't looking for a picasso when we're talking cake. As a matter of fact, I do my cake "drawings" on excel, along with work instructions. Here's a sample of what the brides get from me.... can't get more basic than this!
Graph paper and colored pencils are your friends! I would joke about it with my customers and say "fortunately I'm better with cake than I am with drawing". The drawings give them a good enough idea of what the cake will look like, without spoiling the "wow" factor when they actually see the cake.
I asked Doug for a drawing of what became known as my "towering inferno" cake (in my pix.) He did a great sketch and the customer was happy that she could visualize the cake and was even happier when it was complete!
