I only have unsalted butter and I need to make NFSC today. Can I use unsalted butter in place of salted butter? Should I add extra salt? How much. The recipe calls for 2 cups of butter.
TIA. I'm trying to avoid a trip to the store with my 3 girls just for butter.

Hope I'm not too late - I always use unsalted butter in my NFSC, and everybody loves them! I don't add any extra salt, just follow the recipe exactly.

Thanks Laura. I ended up making them with the unsalted butter and added a little extra salt. I still have some unsalted butter in the freezer though, so I will try it without next week.
I know you already made your batch but just thought I'd chime in anyway I've used salted and unsalted butter with the recipe I've even used one stick of each before. It doesn't seem to affect the recipe all that much.
I know this is answered but here is my 2 cents. Unsalted doesn't change it any. I make them this way and no one notices. I use almond extract in them to give them flavor.
