You could do ABCs, 123s and shapes (squares, circles, etc.) in primary colors. Or things like apples, suns, cats, dogs... And of course hearts!
Last year I was asked to make something for a daycare provider, she was awarded some kind of award. Anyway- I used the smaller gingerbread man, and decorated them as little kids. I also used little hands with hearts. I put them in a large sand bucket. Take a look in my pictures.
Turned out really cute!
