Long story short during an ICE storm here in Nebraska I wound up coming home with a kitten. Complements of our host home for a few days(they had heat and electricity). This kitten is a cutey. Not the problem. Don't get me wrong I totally love cats. But as a person who has raised many a kitten. I hate that stage the most. My kids begged for her to come home with us. And like I said she is so cute ![]()

I am pretty sure I can teach her to stay of the table and counters with help from family(done it before). I at least put a stop to the liter box and food being in my kitchen(that is where DH wanted it to be) It is now in the basement
I want to do my cake business and worring about this kitten. She will mostly be downstairs. I usually only do cakes for friends and family right now. And I have seen some thread on here about pets being a no no. So any tips are greatly appreciated.
Ughhhh.... I have a kitten/cat (he's like 10mo old now) and he eats everything in sight, but he does it when noone is around. We have scolded him numerous times but it just doesn't work because as soon as we go to bed its fair game to him. SO anyways I know what its like to have a kitten and a naughty one at that. I by no means have any sort of bussiness going on but I do bake a lot and when I do I have a room that gets made my cake storage room with a closed door. This is the only way I can be sure that this cat doesn't get into the cake by eating it or licking it when noone is watching.
Keep the door closed from day 1. If the cat is not allowed in that room they won't worry about it but once they're used to going in it's very hard to keep them out.
If my cats get the chance to sneak into the kitchen the onlt time they jump up onto the benches is if there is a buttercream decorated cake there and they'll demolish it.
I was told to keep cats off of your counters you should put card board with sticky tape (or something sticky anyway) on it. That was when they do jump up there their feet will be sticky and they hate it. It should make them want to stay off.
When I was a child and we first got Tigger (RIP) she would try to jump on the dining room table and chairs everytime we sat down for dinner. An older women who grew up on a farm said to discipline her like a momma kitty does, a good whap to the head between the ears with her paw. She said to take two fingers- the pointer finger and middle finger- put them together and give them a firm pat on the head between the ears on top of the head.
It works pretty good, sometimes takes a couple of times, but it works. You are basically letting them know you are the momma cat and what you say goes!
Thanks for the input. I do have a room where I can store a cake and is actually the coldest room in the house. That door is always shut. It is kind of a storage room anyway. And juj thinks for the sticky trick. I will have to try that if she gets naughty. And I have already been tapping her between the ears. Unless she jumps on me with claws out then she flies tp the floor really fast with help
I will keep you posted. She is only 7weeks old UUGGHH ![]()
