I haven't worked with royal icing alot.
I am making a fondant bow for a wedding cake and was using royal icing for glue. The icing was not very smooth and showed in a few spots so I use a brush with a little water to smooth it.
Now it has been a few hours and to few of the areas do not feel like they have started to crust or get hard.
Did I mess up and make it to where the icing will not harden?
Any help would be great.

Did you make the fondant or is it ready made?

IMO royal takes a long time to dry - approx. 24 hrs. Are you making the big fondant bow with lots of little loops? The best glue I've found is candy melts. Tint some the same color as your bow and they'll be nearly invisisble. Dries fast and hard too!

I am in agreement with beachcakes...RI does take quite a while and temperature and humidity in your baking area will make a big difference too. If you have time, just be patient it will get there.
