The past month or so I've noticed a strange taste in the DH cake mixes. The only way I can describe it is by using Angel Food Cake as a reference. You know how Angel Food has that little tartness/dryness to it?

I've been tasting that in the DH cake mixes. I've been thru different things of butter, eggs, sour cream when using the extender ... at first I thought it was b/c I used low-fat sour cream in the extender, but I just did one straight cake mix, no extender or anything other than the recipe on the back of the box.

I know we've discussed some people noticing it baking differently, but I hope I'm not the only one noticing a taste difference? I really don't like it. OK for angel food cake, but the taste just doesn't work in regular cake ...

I use DH mixes all the time and have not noticed any difference in the taste. I have used numerous mixes over the last month or so. including white, chocolate, chocolate fudge, spice, and orange and have not had any problems, nor has anyone mentioned to me that something wasn't quite right with a cake. I don;t know what the problem might be. icon_confused.gif

No one has complained to me about an off taste. I can't stand eating cake anymore since I sample some off of the piece I take off when I level the cake. They taste bad no matter what it is box or scratch. Maybe your tastebuds need a break! icon_biggrin.gif

birdgirl, you are so right - I sample small bites while I'm working on the cake to make sure everything is ok, but lately I HATE every cake I make! Maybe I'm being too picky...
