Yay--picked up all of my certificates and licenses today.
I am legal...the kitchen already has a health inspection in the school's name so I can start baking and then the HD will be out to check me out.
I don't think I have ever written as many checks in one day...LOL!!!
Hope it's all worth it! I will post some pics this evening of "my" kitchen.
A HUGE congratulations to you!!!! I know you must be thrilled and I wish you tons of luck!!!!
Go out and celebrate!
hold the phone...am I right in reading that you're renting your space from a school kitchen? I didn't think a school would consider doing that.
Congrats by the way!
I had the same thought as yummumummy...a school kitchen? Well, CONGRATS to you! Hope lots of biz comes your way.
I am so green with envy right now.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Best wishes to your new business!
Wow Mac, that's great!!!!! So you're using a school kitchen? I'd never heard of someone doing that before. Well, talk about having all the equipment right there!! Will be anxious to see the pics! Congratulations on being legal!
CONGRATULATIONS !! I've heard so much about you and your work. How does this work with the school kitchen?
If you are using a school kitchen, how did you go about getting permission...if you don't mind me asking. Is it expensive? How are you absorbing the cost?...sorry about all the questions, it's just that I was just thinking about this before I saw your post and never thought a school would go for it. This gives me hope when I'm just about ready to give up!

It's a private school.
Thanks everyone--
To start off, I had an "in" before I approached the school. I use to work (catering) with the cook at this private school. Long story short, she was let go. The school has not found anyone to replace her so the children bring sack lunches or money to send out.
It is a totally private school paid for by the parents or scholarships and fundraisers. In fact, my Tablescape 2008 cake was for the fundraiser--they wanted to raise $100,000 and actually exceeded it by $4000.00
So the kitchen just sat there being unused. I called the lady that came up with the Tablescape idea as she is on the Board. She thought they would go for the idea. I talked with the Director, wrote up a proposal to use the kitchen 3-4 nights a week from 6:00-10:00 for $400.00 a month. They accepted the offer. I have done lots of baking for many of the Board members and some for the school so my foot was already in the door.
Go for whatever you can. You can always make something work.
