Will a sheet cake feed 200 poeple?
I need to figure out how many boxes of cake mix to use for that big of a cake. I plan on using a 1/4 sheet cake four times and aking a square. Plus how much icing do I need? I have the hardest time figuring out how much to use.

I also need to make red icing, which product doesn't give a wierd taste?

wilton no-taste red does a good job. also americolor super-red mixes well with it and you can achieve a true red this way.

i believe a quarter sheet (9x13?) will hold one mix (or the equivelant of 24 cupcakes). 4 mixes "should" feed 100..so 8 mixes. I personally would do 9 or 10 and either make it deeper 2 and 1/2 or 3" compared to 1 and 1/2 or 2" deep. or make an extra cake for cutting and keep it in the kitchen.

are you icing the entire thing in red? yikes! there may be a lot of red teeth! icon_rolleyes.gif

colors will also darken with time. if you make your batch one day ahead, you can see what the true color will be the next day. then you can adjust as needed.

According to wilton's chart a 2 layer 9 x 13 will feed 45 so 4 cakes is only going to give you 180 servings. One layer 9 x13 pan takes 7 cups of batter. So how many boxes you need will depend on your recipe and the brand you use.

I am making a cake for Dr. Suess birthday for my local school. Red is big in Dr. Suess stuff. The red doesn't last on teeth forever! icon_razz.gif I was thinking of making the cat look like the thing from the cat in the hat or maybe the cat in the hat's hat. What do you think?

Depending on the sizes of the pieces you cut, you can do the math to determine serving sizes......

11x15 takes 2 mixes.
- 2" x 3" pieces will yield 25 servings.
- 2" x 2" pieces will yield 35 +/- servings.
12x18 takes 3 mixes.
- 2" x 3" pieces will yield 36 servings.
- 2" x 2" pieces will yield 54 servings.
