I've never used that cake pan, but how about a thinned buttercream on the sides.....put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes. Bring it out and use the waxed paper to smooth it out? Just use a piece of waxed paper...position it around the petal area. Use a spatula to rub it smooth.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. You just add 1 tsp of liquid (water or milk)per cup of icing.

And you would put the whole cake in the fridge. Or leave it on the counter a bit longer ....like 15 -20 minutes, maybe.

You can also try the large icing tip. I don't like to use it normally, but on those one layer, odd shaped cakes, it's a dream!

Smoothing the sides of this cake is kind of tricky. I usually just use my #18 star tip and ice it up and down. There a a couple of pics in my photos.
