The symbol for autism awareness is a jigsaw puzzle piece. My shirts and wristband are bright blue with primary-colored puzzle pieces.
You could do an awareness ribbon cake or carve a puzzle piece.

ac2steachk mentioned everything I was going to say! Good luck! It's wonderful of you to make a cake for Autism awareness!!!
awesome! you could... if you were so inclined... make a 2 tier cake, and cut puzzle pieces out of fondant and put all over it.
i'm going to have a vendors tent at our local autism speaks walk in october and was thinking i might make a dummy cake like that, and have cookies in the shape of puzzle pieces and cupcakes with the blue puzzle piece (the autism speaks icon) for sale and donating a percentage of the proceeds to the walk. (my girlfriend who is the regional family services coordinator w/autism speaks, came up with the idea!)
