Make your favorite buttercream recipe, set aside. Puree one carton of frozen strawberries in syrup in your blender, strain through a FINE mesh strainner to collect all the seeds. Mix the strained puree into your buttercream icing on low speed with the paddle attachment. Ta da!!

Add your favorite strawberry puree to your buttercream recipe. I use the strawberry puree recipe from the Cake Bible and add it to my IMBC.

The easiest way would be to replace the vanilla or other extract in your b/c recipe with strawberry extract.

Others have had success adding strawberry filling (from the plastic sleeves) or strawberry preserves/jelly to their b/c.

However, I thought the mixture was too sweet and thin, by the time I could taste the strawberry - but that could just be me.

I would like to try the icing fruit and see how that works.

I've also read that red unsweetend Kool-Aid or jello can be added to b/c for both flavor and color.

Here are some threads about strawberry b/c:

i make a buttercream with fresh strawberries that is one of the most popular icings at my bakery.
1 lb. salted butter, softened
4-5 fresh strawberries, coarsely chopped
2 tsp vanillaf
2 lb. powdered sugar

cream together strawberries, butter, and vanilla until strawberries are mushed (for lack of better words). add powdered sugar, slowly. beat until a good consistancy. if it's dry out, sometimes i add a little half and half.
i've found that adding it to already made buttercream makes the icing too liquidy, but that's just my experience.
my recipe is basically a buttercream, but instead of liquid, add strawberries since they have so much water in them

I made raspberry buttercream by adding about 1/2 cup raspberry jam to 1 cup buttercream. Another alternative is to use strawberry jam and mix with your buttercream. Definitely taste as you mix. Hope this helps.
