Has anyone done this before? At a wedding that I made the cakes for, they had a candy bar. It was so unique and cute...I want to add this to my special events as another option.
I took a picture but I don't know how to decrease the size to post it in the forums. On a table with a centerpiece that looked like a huge lollipop, there were several different glass containers, large margarita glasses, etc...and each had candy in them. Layered with different kind of candies or just one kind. One even looked like a shrimp cocktail with Hot Tamales and gummi rings.
There were small white bags that were stamped with a bride and groom, the couple's name and date for the guests to fill with candy. I LOVE THIS!!! Going to research more but thought I would ask here if anyone has done one and what to charge.
Hi, Mac!
Don't worry so much about posting a pic on this one. Many of us have seen these before. The trend started with the Hershey Bar that was re-covered to say It's A He or It's A She, to be given out when babies are born.
We have made them, but since it was family, we did not charge. I did a quick search online, and found that the Hershey Bar size, generic wrapping, is going for $1.30-$2.50 each, depending on the vendor. Photo-wrapped candy bars go from .50 cents each for the Hershey Miniature size to $5.00 for the regular Hershey Bar size.
If you to to www.about.com. and enter candy wrapper templates in the search box, you can find some free ones there, courtesy of Microsoft.
We made our own with the Word program and some clip art. Nothing fancy, just a stork with a baby, and some pink lettering. But we did go to Staples and get glossy paper to print on, so it would be shiny like a candy wrapper is.
Hope this helps.

Hi T!
This is what I initially thought the post was about, also...but I think Mac meant a bar...as in liquor...except with candy...
Very cute idea, actually. I saw it done at a child's first birthday. It was all adults and it was held in a catering hall. The centerpieces were topiaries made with candy, and the mom rented a cart that resembled an old fashioned vegetable cart that she filled with baskets of different candy. The cake I made for that was the Candyland cake.
Gotcha. Like a taco or sundae bar. Sorry, can you tell it's really way past my bedtime?

I believe it is done with modeling chocolate, sometimes with marzipan also. An old wilton magazine had it with a barbecue set up with a hot dog and hamburger. It was pretty cool. I think I have seen Ace of cakes use the modeling chocolate too. I have never used it though. Unfortunately, I threw out that magazine it was in.
one of my friends just did this for her wedding. It was so much fun. Everyone at the wedding loved it. She bought the candy in bulk online, I don't remember where, and she borrowed the large margarita glasses from all of us. She bought little scoops online also. I don't know how much it would cost to do this, but it is a lot of fun.
Sorry guys,
I forgot I posted this. Yes, it is like the Sundae bar and actually, there is a picture of one in the magazine "The Knot--Texas Weddings".
I am hoping to have a small candy bar set up at the wedding expo in February. Trying to get my ducks in a row for pricing. Boy, the ideas are just flying thru my head. I wish I had as many hours to do everything I am thinking about but I better limit myself. LOL!!! I tend to over-do.
Wow, that sounds like a fantastic idea! And you're right, that would be a great add-on to the cake order.
Maybe do an on-line search. I tried "candy buffet reception" and came up with a little bit.
Eldredge manor in Utah charges $1.45 a person for this, but I couldn't find any pictures.

This site has a picture, and ideas for the candy buffet.
There was more, but so far, I have not found a nice picture. I do have a mental one in my head, but good luck getting there! LOL
This does seem to be something that is getting to be fairly popular.
