My name is Sara and I really need a name for my business cards. My stepson has always called me Sara Lee, but lord what trouble that could get in. Help, need ideas too.
Chaptips I just love that! What a neat concept!
Sara, if your middle name is Lee, then you can't get in any trouble since it's your real name. If it's not, you could do so much with Sara:
Sara's Sweetery
Sara's Sweets
Sara's Sweet Shoppe
I don't know what you are specializing in?
I call myself "The Confectionist" mainly because I am something of a perfectionist and CDO (which is OCD alphabetized, the way it should be). I think it's a cute play on words. It is already taken by a lady in California on the web, but that is OK, I don't have a site as of yet and will figure that out when I get there.
I don't have a business name yet. I wouldn't even know where to begin ,I just wanted to know where I could get a picture of a cake for my logo
clip art packages
stock photo companies (lots are on line and can buy right over the internet -- just google "stock photography" -- corbis one of the biggies for this
make a cake and take one yourself or take cake to photo pro and have him/her do it -- and maybe get referrals too!
We wanted the name to say something about our business philosophy. I get so tired of brides going thru so much hassle when planning a wedding. We wanted to "Keep it simple" for her. So combining our tag-line plus the company name, we came up with........
"You don't have to cater it expensive, you can......
Cater It Simple"
which fits nicely on letterhead and biz cards, too!
I think it's wonderful when you can take something special to you and make it into a business name. If I had a business, it would be Little Oven Cakes. I got my love of baking from my grandmother. When I was very small, I would tell her that I wanted "a little oven" over and over. So, for Christmas she got me a toy stove. I started crying. She took me aside and asked why and I told her it wasn't want I wanted....I wanted HUGS...a little lovin'.....
I guess I didn't say my L's very well. So, until the day she died, she and I would tell each other that we needed "a little oven". ![]()
what a sweet story Jodie! That is too cute! ![]()
My business iname is "Royal Icings" and my slogan is "Bringing you tiers of joy" ![]()
I had a naming contest and took entries. The author of the winning entry won one free cake a month for a year!!
It has been well worth that small cost...everyone loves the name and slogan. I am even in the process of getting a website!!
Good luck!! ![]()

Great name,slogan, and idea(the contest)!!!
Doug...what a creative person you are. I would also like some advice with my name as well since this post is already going. (I hope you don't mind me taking advantage of this post skittles!!) My business will be combined with an art gallery. It's going to be a tea room/cake shop. The decor is all white with glass and silver accents. I almost hate to say tea room, because it's not going to be like the usual tea rooms. The name of the gallery is " 8th Street Art Gallery" so it will need to be 8th street art gallery and (insert my name here) I was leaning toward Serinity Tea Room, but i'm not sure I want tea room in the name. I want something classy and elegant. People will be coming into the gallery to view the art work while enjoying coffee, tea, finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes. We will also be displaying food art as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Cocorum21,
If the name you want is taken but the business is completely different, you can still use it.
I found out that same names can be used as long as it's a different type of business. For example, one is a bakery and the other is a clothing store.
See what I mean? You won't get the dot com name, but it can still be registered and legal.
Hope that helps,
Alex

Art-Tay: enjoy fine art with fine tea. (tay said w/ long a to rhyme w/ way -- the way so many in England say tea)
Tea-riffic Art
Art and Soul: Art for the eye and tea for the heart
(will keep thinking and trying!)

Yeah I registered the name with the state and I did get the dot com but I added bakery to it. I was just bummed because I thought I had such a winner.
I love the tag line tiers of joy. That would be an awesome name on it's own.
Doug....thank you!! I like the Art and Soul...I think you may be on to something!! I like that!! Keep em coming!!
