How To Make Giftbox Cake With Buttercreme

I have seen several cakes on here that are gift boxes with closed lids and bows on top but i want to know how to make the lid look like a lid with buttercreme icing, i've seen several but no instructions on how. If you have any instructions on how to do this with buttercreme or any ideas i'd love to know, thanks, jennifer 
If you have a "cake icer" tip, you can apply the "lid" icing with that and smooth the edges into the top icing. The tip is wide and makes a nice "lid".

also if you are interested (I know you said you wanted to do it in BC but..) you can do just the top in fondant...by making strips for all four sides then the top.
