Homemade Impression Mat?

Does anyone know if impression mats can be made at home? If so, would you share how to do it? I need a design but don't think I'll use it again and don't need to purchase a mat.

There was a thread about this but sadly it's been lost in the crash.

I've read of them being made with hot glue. I think you could put a piece of acete on top of the design and outline with hot glue (not so hot it would melt). Let it dry and press on the cake. I've never done it but it makes sense.

Someone here posted that you can hot glue your design on card board and then use a food sealer and suck all the air out. Then you have a reusable design that you made yourself.
