Request is for 1/2 sheet cake with the birthday girl's name in the middle with a 50. Then, somewhere on the cake, the names and ages icon_eek.gif of all the siblings (all adults). I guess they are going for a sort of "family" 50th birthday cake.

I'm trying to think of how to creatively get all these names and ages on the cake. Cake will be iced in buttercream but I could add fondant on it somewhere.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I'm not quite sure where to start.

I saw a pic. of a wedding cake (all round) where they put all the names of the guests on it. On the sides. Would this work?

There are a couple of Eagle Scout cakes that listed each of the values of the motto (Trustworthy, honesty, etc). When I saw those I thought, "I need to remember that when I need to list a bunch of words". Besides, I'm jealous because they are so much better than my eagle scout cake. If you do a search for "eagle" in the gallery you'll get several of them.

Great suggestions. I'd like the cake to have some kind of theme, though, instead of just writing the names of her 11 siblings directly on the cake.

projectqueen, I looked in your gallery and noticed that you do cookies, how about decorated cookies (bouquet style) with a name on each coming out of the cake? The stars can be a theme or whatever cutters you have. just a thought.

Interesting idea, Rezzy, thanks.

I was told she likes golf, so maybe the 1/2 sheet in the shape of a golf bag with 11 clubs sticking out the top with the names/ages of the siblings on them? Maybe the clubs could be cookies....or fondant.

Otherwise, maybe some kind of family tree with the names coming off somehow....

hello projectqueen

I had to do something similar once... not 12 names .. just 8.
try this, make banners with each name. you can use fondant, but my preferred method is with chocolate. while still soft you attach a tooth pick or lollipop stick. then you stand each banner (little flag) on the cake. Everyone gets a slice with their name on it.. or can take it home (provide little plastic bags).
I had made mine with different color combinations.
looked great.

I like the banner idea . . . or some other type of fondant accent where you can list the names (maybe write them with an edible marker). You could make them banners, or make it look like a birthday card . . . but the cute toothpick banners is a great idea! I saw someone do a family tree one, with the names falling off of a tree, with each name on a branch.

Hi
me again... I once did a birthday cake for a little kid in daycare; we had a a dinosaur theme. I made different chocolate dinosaurs (all different colors) on lollipop sticks. The dinosaurs were placed on the cake in an arc around the name of the birhtday kid.
Every kid at the daycare had a slice of cake & a dinosaur to take home.
In this case, say you have a golf theme, you could make a golf ball for each person with their names on it.
I thought of another option too: you use edible images that look like name tags, for each of the names . Doing this will let you add a border to each & allow for fine print with fancy fonts. You can easily print all 12 on one sheet.
can't wait to see what you finally decide on.
ciao
