My Final Cake In The Wilton Courses

Hello all,
I just wanted to share a pic of the final cake I did for Wilton Course 3. I think I am having class withdrawal. I did discover that I do not like doing fondant roses. They were so time consuming and I had a very difficult time with them. If anyone has any suggestions on making that process easier please let me know. I can't wait for the new class in February. Anyway, here is the cake, please critique away.

Oh wow, it looks so pretty, congratulations!! The roses look great! I know... it is a lot of work... the only thing I can think of is using jelly beans (jelly belly) insetad of the little tear drop center for the rose. That saves you that step, but other than that, I think there is not much you can do to make them faster. HTH.
I am so impressed - you did an awsome job. The color of the roses is just beautiful and I especially love the ruffles. I know buttercream is much faster but your roses look perfect, perhaps next time you could make them ahead of time (way ahead of time) to help you out. Think of them as TV therapy time, ha, ha! Good luck and keep up the good work.
Your cake is wonderful you should be very proud. In my course 3 class there was only one person that made all of the roses the cake required. I did about 20 and they took forever.
I remember reading somewhere that most people just use their fingers to press out the petals instead of the ball tool that the Wilton book tells you to use. I would think that would save a good amount of time. But honestly I haven't even attempted fondant roses since my course 3 final cake.
Great Job!
your cake is so pretty....you can try this link....i like doing them this way instead of the way wilton teaches...its much easier and less time consuming (to me anyway)

BradyMom I think honestly the Wilton cake is cheesy I was lucky our instructor let us choose a different cake as long as it was stacked or tiered!!! so I did not have to make those roses, BUT I think you did a real good job your roses are very good my BC roses are still pretty horrible!!! LOL I don't think there is a quick way to do it except as we practice it gets easier therefore become faster, I'm also looking forward to my new classes I took all 3 Wilton's back to back and was very pregnant and was very hot in the Summer so I know how you feel I was about done!!! but I'm taking new classes 2 courses total of 16 weeks every Monday from
6-9 pm so I'm looking forward to it good luck on your new classes and keep on making cakes!!!!
very nice roses...I luv that color. But I really think they should let you choose a cake design as long as it is stacked and or tiered. Besides, that is what cake decorating is all about....your imagination coming to life on your cake canvas. Some general guidelines and specifics would be fine. But you do sign up for their way of decorating so I guess that's what you get....their way! ![]()
