I am attempting to make the deer head cake for my hubby's Birthday. Ahhhhhhhh. I have to say I did have fun painting the frosting on the antlers. I am big time mad at Walley World because I bought some Wilton brown coloring and when I opened it I saw that someone had already opened it and used half of it!!!!!!!!! How NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have to take another trip over there in the morning and have to bring the kids. What a pain.
this is why you should check everything before you leave. i know its a pain in the butt.and that you shouldnt have to do this. but it saves time from having to drive back and forth.
Ooooooooo I can't wait to see your Pictures!!!!! I am so sorry that your brown was Used ugghhhh how RUDE!!! PEOPLE have NERVE!

The cake came out great! Love the backboard. I've had tubes of coloring and frosting pre-opened before too. I make it a habbit of checking every single container (even the pre-made frosting in the tubs) before I get to the check out stand. Drives my kids nuts, but I have on more than one occation found a container that had already been opened.
the backboard is a piece of plexi-glass I cut with a jig saw (all by myself....lol) and covered with shelf liner I found at walmart.
wow, that's pretty creative. I would have just cut several layers of cake boards and put them together. I need to think of better backgrounds to put my cakes on. I'm loving seeing all these new ideas. My kids are going to wonder what happened to me with all the extra time I'm spending on the computer!
Overall, how hard was it? I will be making one or more next year and just want an idea. Oh btw, since Kandi is on vacation in MY state (the other side of it ) she's kinda busy so if anyone wants the directions for it, shoot me a PM. She's the one who originally posted the instructions for the deer head cake.

It really wasn't that hard. I can e-mail the directions that I was given if you need them. For the antlers I used wire, then covered them with tin foil to give them bulk and then covered them with with masking tape. I used buttercream because I already had it made to paint on them and put them in the fridge. I actually had fun doing that. I used a carrot cake with walnuts and raisins in it and that made it very hard to carve so I had to manipulate the frosting instead. I made a small cake. I used a 9x13 pan. BTW I have lots of scraps left anyone know how I can make cake balls with carrot cake?

My hubby let it set 2 days before he would touch it. I told him if he didn't eat it I would never make him a cake again.
