On the Food Network, I saw where a chef had the dowel bolted into the base, and basically slide the cakes down onto it to form a tower... Kind of "Cake on a Stick"...chuckle Seemed to work really well.

Doug's description/instructions is almost EXACTLY how Geof on Ace of Cakes did the lighthouse cake! It was awesome!! Just stacked and carved the shape and covered it! Good luck Can't wait to see your cake!
