Beverages At Cake Tasting
Business By amandasweetcakes Updated 13 Jan 2007 , 3:15am by StandingForJesus
What beverages do you offer, if any, at your cake tastings?? I was thinking bottled water. Any ideas?? Thanks.
I serve sweet tea and punch. Water is also an option if my guests prefer it.
When I'm doing it at home, people usually don't want anything but water, no matter what you offer them. It's like they don't want to "impose".
When I do it at the restaurant whose wedding cakes I do, they seem to feel much more more free to order coffee/tea/soda, whatever they want.
I have a glass pitcher filled with ice water and a pot of coffee ready. Most of my customers want coffee...which goes quite nicely with a slice of cake! ![]()
I think that water is the best also, so not to interfere with taste buds...and its free :}

I order cases of 6oz bottled water from our water company that supplies our machine.
So as I serve the cake/fillings I give them each a ice cold bottle of water. Then whatever is left, they can take the bottle with them.
Off topic, but there is a candy wrap program that does water labels you can cover the water label with your own!
Thanks everybody. I thought water would be best, also. Anything else, could change the taste of the cake.
Since I sell my wedding cakes in a package that includes the wedding punch, I have a pitcher of the punch for them to sample. If they are doing a tasting for buffet only (food .... no cake), then I serve a bottle of water. Since my samplings take 60-90 minutes, I would want to serve them something to drink. All of that talking can give you dry mouth unless you have something to sip on. ![]()
I always serve a cold bottle of water with my tastings. Its just the small 6 oz bottle but they appreciate it and don't feel that they are imposing by asking for something to drink. I think water is the best for tasting different flavor combinations because it doesn't hinder the flavors of cake.
Dessert wine, hello! Haha! Get'em tipsy and they'll totally sign your contract!
Right????
Haha!
I always offer coffee, tea, coke or water and everytime they ask for water, so now I don't even bother to have anything else ready. I just buy a case of bottled water to always have on hand and when I know someone's coming, I pop about 4 of them in the fridge the night before and when they get here that's what I offer and they all seem very pleased to have it. Then like everyone else stated, it's the best when they're trying to taste the flavor of your cake and that's the flavor you want to be concerned about, not your coffee or if your tea is sweet enough or too sweet etc. My vote is WATER! Plain and simple! Hope this helps! - Be blessed, Ellie
