Does anyone know how to apply sparking sugar to the sides of a round cake? I have to do this to a four-tier cake for this Saturday. Any help would be appreciated!

I hold the cake with my left hand, over a pan (to catch the extras). Using my right hand wearing a plastic disposable glove, then I take a handful of sprinkles, nuts, ect. (whatever I want to put on the side, and press it in the sides, all the way around.

I've heard of some people using a glitter gun with success, but I've never tried it.

I do somewhat the same as another post said, I hold the cake in my left hand and slightly tilt over, I work over a sheet pan so it will catch the extra sugar or sprinkles. I grab a handful of sugar and start at the bottom and kinda roll it up the sides, Just keep turning the cake until you get all the way around. If it is a heavy cake, you could use your turntable and do the same thing, just not tilting the cake. You will then have to scrape the excess off the edge of the board.

I use the cake triangle (cake comb) for this method. I hold the cake triangle at 45 deg angle on my left hand. carefully slide down the sugar sparkles using your right hand, slowly moving your left hand downwards,so that the entire surface is covered. Rotate cake and repeat the process until the whole cake is covered. Brush off excess sugar.
