Topsy Turvy style!

Of I've seen some in the shape of books and then decorated to look like Seuss book covers.

How fun! You could carve the hat out of a sheet cake. Kids would love green cake (green eggs and ham) or a cake with the elephant ?horton? I think is his name. Please post a picture when you make it

I like the idea of a 3-D Dr. Seuss hat. Or, using the book pan, you could put FBCT's of a page or 2 of a Dr. Seuss story. I can't wait to see what you decide on.

Beth,

Yes his name is Horton, but now, should he be Hearing A Who or Hatching The Egg?

Those were my favorite Seuss stories growing up - thanks for the reminder.

For the cake, it has definitely got to be the hat, done topsy turvy.

I have seen a couple of that style on here ... do a search in a the gallery and you should be able to find them. There is one that I thought was amazing that had characters from the different books (cat in the hat, one fish, two fish ... etc.)

I'm jealous, I've been looking for an excuse to make one! lol

I did this one last year as a Christmas gift for a good friend who collects anything Seuss. She doesn't eat cake so I did a dummy, but everything on it is either gumpaste or fondant and could be used on a real cake.
The closeups of the characters on this cake are on page 5 of my photo gallery.

I have a Cat in the Hat cake in my photos...done for a birthday party at the Dr. Suess Museum in the city of his birth in MA. It is certainly not as cool as a topsy turvy, but you can check it out for inspiration.

The hat is pretty easy, I did one for my son's class for Dr Seuss' b-day. I covered a couple round cake boards in white freezer paper to be the brim of the hat, then baked (I think) 4-8" round cakes and stacked them for the hat. I offset the top layer a smidge to give it the slightly crooked look. I put cake boards under each layer, and a dowel through the whole thing to hold it together. With the boards between layers, cutting for the class was pretty easy as each layer was the same thickness - no arguments over sizes.

I am doing a Dr. Seuss cake for a friend's baby shower this weekend. I jumped at the chance to make this one! I am going to try out my new sugar veil system to make the characters and do different ones on each of 3 tiers. I will post a pic next week.

That is one really great cake! Send us pictures of the other side! I am so glad you like your sugarveil. I tried mine a couple of times, then put it away. I guess it's time to break it out again!

Kate,

The best way to explain SugarVeil is to give you the link to the website.
