Experience In Whimsical Cakes Need Help Real Bad

Hi need your help here CC'ers if you have done these tell me what you think of this method for a whimsical cake, this one the sugestion of the guy at the cake supply store I visit, I need the whisical cake for my dd birthday party it will be a small party so don't need tall cakes or a lot fo cakes, therefore the tutorial here on cc is not good for me way too much cake, I plan to use the bottom cake a dummy! but the store I have near only has an average size cake dummy slanted and all the guy suggested i cut a slanted hole in the dummy the same size as the top cake and the dowel it like a regular stack cake the follow with another slanted hole and at the end put a dowel down the middle so like a stack cake with the dowels but instead of carving cakes cut slanted holes in the cake once on top of another cake it makes sense ut I should ice the cake before hand put my fondant then stack does that make sense and i can't do a regular cake because once you make the slanted hole that would take the top layer so I would do 3 layer cakes on the top two. I plan on doing a 12" dummy, 10" real cake, 8" real cake will that look good? should i try this or should i try to do the bkeith method has anyone done one like this? please help i really need to start my practice cake soon to see if i can even pull this off for her party
see if this makes more sense to you - go to this link and you on how to stack. You know I was going to make whimsical for my husband 6, 8 and 10 but decide that 6, 9 and 12 will be better. By the time you cut the hole on the third layer if you want to have some run for a border or and design it may be tight.
