I am going to attempt my first try at making some fondant animals for Saturday. I am wondering if it matters if they are completely dry before putting them on the cake? I am planning on doing jungle animals and will have them sitting on the sides of the cake and one on the top. I know it is cutting it close but I was thinking we will be taking them off before cutting the cake so do they really have to be completely dry? icon_confused.gif

Also I would love any and all of your wonderful tips I am planning on making: turtles, monkeys, elephants, aligators and maybe giraffe or a lion.

TIA
Melissa

Let them sit out overnight and you should be fine as long as they are not to "fat" otherwise they may droop.

If you are striving for the all "edible" thingee. Spaghetti works wonders as a support.

If you have any gum-tex, I would knead some into the fondant before you model the animals.

I used saran wrap under the polar bears that I made to support them whilst drying (great tip from Boonenati's shoe tutorial)..absolutely support the body whilst drying...I put some under the tummy part so the legs had hardly any weight or stress on them.

You can make a type of glue out of fondant thinned with water..just smoosh it around to a paste...it helped very much when I adhered the legs to the body..also I used part of a toothpic...you can use spaghetti too but I just used toothpics.

It is fun seeing these models come to life...have fun..can't wait to see the pics!!!

If I think of anything else, I will post again...
