I have to do a cake for a 1 year old girl...her mother said she likes balls. So my idea is to do a round cake, and then put 1/2 of the 3-D ball cake on it with grass tip around it...to look like it is laying in the yard. I would like to do a marble effect on the ball...like the big blown up balls you buy at Walmart. I do buttercream...no fondant, but not sure how to acheive this effect or something even close...any ideas? Come on guys...put on the thinking caps, and give me some of those awesome ideas I know you have stored up there! Hee hee! icon_biggrin.gif

Appreciate the help!

Some people have done the buttercream camouflage, you might do a search on that and try using that technique with the tie dye/ swirley look.

The best thing I can think of and I think I would try it out before you actually try it on the cake is to add color and just not mix it in very well. Leave it streaked and then when you ice the cake it will mix it a little better from the icing. That might be the way to do it. I would try it first on something else though.

Could you explain those techniques -- buttercream camouflage and the tie dye effect? I've always wondered how those were done. icon_smile.gif

I haven't ever done it, lol, I admire those who have though, if you go to galleries and sear como/camouflage, you will fing the cake artist who does it and you could pm them to get their instructions.

Yes, I have done the camo effect...twice actually...a little more pronounced in design than I wanted...I like the idea of the mixing the icing, but not really mixing it well...then kind of do it like I did the camo cake...in splotches (sp). Any other ideas out there?

The pink camo cake with the bow was my inspiration for my camo cakes...exactly what I used! Great minds think alike.
