I am trying to get a maroon color with buttercream and I cannot get it. It leans more toward a bright maroon burgandy. I have read alot of red red what can I add to it ?

I did maroon on my Redskins cake - is that the color you're thinking of? I used alot of the wilton burgandy and added brown just a touch at a time.

Maybe a drop at a time of brown. If the color you want starts to get away from you, try adding a drop at a time of red and keep playing with it.

Seems to me I added chocolate frosting to my burgundy. (but I really forget) Everybody's on the right track ... try adding brown or cocoa or chocolate frosting.

i always do a red with a little bit of black. i makes a good maroon. like a mississippi state or texas a&m maroon. just add more or less of the black if you need it redder for like an alabama crimson.
